Reverend Gene Thomas
Pastor
Our Pastor, Dr. Eugene F. "Gene" Thomas, is a native of Gloucester, Va. Prior to entering full-time ministry in 1983, Gene was in a family-owned business for many years. His educational background includes a BA Degree in Philosophy from Christopher Newport College, a Master of Divinity Degree from Virginia Union School of Theology and a Doctor of Ministry Degree from Boston University. He also completed a seminar in church worship at Mansfield College, Oxford University, in 1992. Gene has served pastorates in Winchester, Alexandria, New Market and Virginia Beach and was appointed to Clarendon in July 2006. Gene loves worship, all kinds, from "happy clappy" contemporary to more traditional "high church" liturgical. One of the things he loves about Clarendon is his ability to do both. Gene has served on the District Boards of Ordained Ministry for many years and has been active in the Emmaus Communities where he has served.
Linda Thomas
Gene has been married to his wife, Linda, for 41 years. Linda is an active partner in ministry. A native of Mathews, Va., she is a graduate of Shenandoah University and has been employed by the university for 20 years. She is a certified lay speaker, trained in Gestalt Pastoral Care under Tilda Norberg and in Healing Prayer under Francis and Judith MacNutt. She has studied Spiritual Formation at Eastern Mennonite Seminary and taken biblical studies at Regent University's School of Divinity. Linda has been active in the local churches and districts where they have served.
